CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government assured that the meat products sold in the city’s public market is safe.
Mayor Paz Radaza said yesterday that all meat products come from the city’s abattoir and the abattoir has met the standards set by the National Meat Inspection Commission, as well as those of other agencies tasked to monitor the operations of the abattoir.
City Hall has also assigned personnel to closely monitor the public market to ensure that the meat products sold thereat comes from the city abattoir.
Radaza said the city government also purchased new vehicles that would transport the meat from the abattoir to the market.
Radaza made the assurance following reports that the local sausage “chorizo” being sold in markets in Cebu City and Mandaue City contains the E-coli bacteria.
The city engineering office said earlier it has already completed Phase 1 of repair works on the market’s structural defects. Phase 2 would entail construction of drainage and more stalls. – THE FREEMAN
