Exosomes especially for hair growth
Everyone’s talking about exosomes, not only in beauty, but also in health and wellness. Hair and scalp center Svenson has found a new application for it in stimulating hair growth.
“Exosomes are vesicles containing growth factors, genetic material and lipids. That vesicle not only protects those growth factors and genetic material inside, it also facilitates delivery,” explains Mike Lee, CEO of PrimaCure, the Korean company behind E50-H exosomes.
How does it differ from other biostimulators like platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells? He says, “The outer wall of an exosome, the membrane, is the same biochemical structure as our human cells. So in comparison to traditional modalities, I would say you can achieve faster, more standardized results.”
I find that the best part about having Exosomes as an alternative is that there is no blood drawing necessary, which you would need for PRP, or harvesting from donor cells like a piece of your scalp, placenta, or your body fat, which you would need for stem cells.
There are different kinds of exosomes in the market but PrimaCure’s E50-H exosomes are unique for being marine-derived, which is proven to be most beneficial in regeneration treatments, especially for the scalp.
“With hair transplant surgeries, you might see faster results because you’re literally transplanting hair,” Lee compares. “But if you give exosomes three to four months, especially if you’re a younger patient, I would say the results are comparable to that of maybe a graft that’s 4,000 to 6,000.”
He continues: “Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair loss can make your existing hair follicles grow healthy, thicker hair, or activate dormant hair follicles. Exosomes not only do that, but on top of that, will stimulate hair stem cells that are residing right under your scalp to migrate and plug up with your endothelial cells and become new hair follicles where new hair will grow. That’s why you see more explosive results in a shortened period of time.”
To make the most out of the exosomes, Svenson has developed a two-step system for it in NexoHair. The exosomes are microneedled into the scalp, which involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles with a handheld piece. While Sveson has developed a way to make this part of the treatment more comfortable even for the most sensitive, the scalp is still one of our body’s most sensitive areas. Your first session will take some getting used to, but it’ll feel as manageable as tapping your nails against your scalp towards the end.
After the application of exosomes on the scalp through microneedling, the second step is TargetCool, a CO2 device that delivers cold temperature with gentle pressure to drive the precious exosomes “into the microchannels created by microneedling,” says Lee. “So we can really maximize the delivery of exosomes into the scalp.”
It also reduces inflammation. It’s also very relaxing as an end-of-the-day treatment as it’s proven to lower blood pH and improve the supply of oxygen to cell tissues. This part is so soothing that you’d want to do it as often as every other day, but best results show up once done a minimum of three times, every three to four weeks, following our hair’s natural growth cycle. Personally, as someone with androgenic alopecia thanks to PCOS, I noticed less oiliness after my first session and noticed volume and density by my second session.
