Living in Fendi

There’s no reason someone who buys a Peekaboo bag won’t buy this Peekaboo chair,” says Alberto Da Passano, who leads the Fashion Furniture Design joint venture between Fendi Casa and Design Holding as CEO.

He’s referring to the handbag designed by creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi, reinvented season after season since its first release in 2008. Its essence is captured in the Atelier oï Fun Fendi seating system, with its stuffing and padding peeping out from behind the upholstery in a contrasting material.

Fashion houses have long stamped their covetable signature beyond the realm of clothes and accessories with licensing deals, at times diluted to just a logo and a name; Fendi Casa is nothing like that.

The partnership with Design Holding is a “Continuity of the past to the future,” Da Passano says during the opening of the Manila Fendi Casa showroom. It is only the third in the world, brought in by Focus Global Inc.

“It’s no longer a license — it’s a partnership,” he emphasizes. All designed by a community of established designers and architects from all over the world selected by Silvia Venturini Fendi herself, he adds, “Silvia Venturini Fendi signs off on every piece and adds a fashion twist to the furniture collection.”

The house of Fendi has its beginnings in handbags and fur when it was established in Rome in 1925. It’s no surprise that fur finds its way into the collection, even figuratively: stripes of sable fur are ingeniously echoed in the Astuccio Canes side table by Chiara Andreatti. Synonymous not only with its innovative use of exotic materials but also its timeless design, distinctive motifs of the Maison embellish the pieces without being derivative. Karl Lagerfeld’s logomania is emblazoned in its full glory in Karligraphy and FF rugs. A statement coffee table has arches in the emblematic sequence of the Palazzo Fendi in Rome. Pequin stripes punctuate the armrests of Marcel Wanders Studio’s Five sofa and armchairs.

Focus Global Inc. has a long relationship with Design Holding, giving Filipinos as well the Singapore and Malaysia markets the full experience of high-end brands like B&B Italia and Louis Poulsen.

In the Philippines, you can experience the luxury of Fendi in two ways: you can wear it and live in it, too.
