Dyson’s new lightweight vacuum is a bona fide cleaning heavyweight
Last week, Dyson launched the latest addition in its growing family of cord-free vacuum cleaners the Dyson V8 Slim. Weighing just 2.15kg, this particular model is the British tech company’s lightest vacuum cleaner yet. But don’t let its svelte frame fool you; this impressive machine packs quite a hefty punch in terms of performance and technology.
Engineered specifically with Asian homes in mind, the V8 Slim is smaller, lighter, but just as powerful as its predecessor. Thoughtful yet subtle changes in design maximize the cordless vacuum’s efficiency, making it an ideal addition (and great investment!) for your space.
Case in point: the new soft roller head, which is 40 percent smaller and lighter than its previous version, is restructured for a more direct airflow path, making it so a single pass is enough to ensure that no dirt or fine dust is left behind. The roller head’s sharp corners are also smoothened out, allowing users to reach cramped spaces with greater ease and mobility. And since lifting the vacuum is now virtually strain-free thanks to its reduction in weight, cleaning high-up places like ceilings or pendant lights is also a piece of cake. Overall better cleaning performance and a reduction in cleaning time? Talk about a deep-clean dream come true.
The re-engineered soft roller cleaner head is then paired with the tried-and-tested Dyson V8 main body, whose power source is a digital motor that spins at up to 107,000rpm (for context, that’s about five times faster than a Formula One car engine). This high-powered motor can pick up large debris and fine dust from the floor, easy-peasy, and generate enough strong airflow to go through cyclone and filters.
Speaking of filters, the whole-machine filtration system is also one of its more stellar features, with its ability to capture 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens and pollen, making the exhaust air cleaner. Meanwhile, an advanced cyclone technology — an area constantly developed and refined by Dyson for more than 25 years now — effectively separates dirt from the airflow, helping to avoid a decline in performance evident in other vacuums that depend solely on filters or have less efficient cyclone systems. As for run time, a full charge can give you up to 40 minutes, which is more than enough time for modern home dwellers in smaller spaces.
Priced at P27,500, The V8 Slim Fluffy+ comes with several accessories — a mini motorized head, mini soft dusting brush, mattress tool, combi tool, and light-pipe crevice tool — which you can either connect to the wand or on to the main body to quickly transform the device into a handheld vacuum. And while these attachments are already familiar to longtime Dyson users, the inclusion of two LED lights running along the sides of the crevice tool is a nifty and convenient update. I tested it out and the extra visibility from the light-pipe really made a world of difference in thoroughly cleaning dark nooks and crannies. It’s a simple tweak, sure, but it’s this attention to detail that reminded me once again of Dyson’s mission to solve problems others overlook, oft-neglected inconveniences included.
With absolutely no compromise in performance, it’s clear that Dyson does what it does best: innovate. And at a time when we’re all spending more time indoors than out and where maintaining a clean environment is a public health and safety issue, this smart (and, let’s face it, super-stylish) offering comes at just the right time.
