Modern love

MANILA, Philippines – There’s something very modern-day “It” girl about Rosa Clara’s latest collection of bridal gowns. Think Alicia Vikander, Rooney Mara and Saoirse Ronan and that homogenous red carpet ease that makes them stand out in their real girl-ness. Falling somewhere in the middle of glamorous and edgy, it’s all about effortlessness, not pageant-worthy perfection.

For brides this season, Rosa Clara takes its cue from the ‘30s and ‘40s but incorporates the modern woman’s need for comfort and variety. Comfort equals pockets, of course. What woman wouldn’t want to have their phones on-hand to Snap that special moment? Plus, wouldn’t it be much cooler if women walked down the aisle with hands in their pockets? Forget the bouquet, just stomp on that red carpet like Vogue is watching.

Variety comes in many silhouettes. Most gowns cinched at the waist, as dictated by the referenced eras, Rosa Clara offers an option to wear sleeves (or just one), sport a detachable train, be business on top with a buttoned-up collar and princess on the bottom with a full, fluggy skirt.

The gowns are predominantly slim and simple (with the exception of a few ball gowns), perhaps as a reflection of Rosa Clara’s clientele: practical women who believe that beauty and glamour don’t necessitate extravagance, at least not the ostentatious kind. This doesn’t mean our love affair with weddings ends here — it’s just a different, more straightforward kind of romance this season.

This year’s showcase, recently presented at the Peninsula Manila Upper Lobby, was made with Rosa Clara’s premium selection of fabrics such as silk brocade, traditionally woven lace, silk tulle, crepe, muslin, silk organza, and mikado. Each dress was rich in detail, like embroidery, beaded brooches and belts. While wide pleats and low backlines took the gowns from throwback to current.

The TWO by Rosa Clara and Aire Barcelona lines fuse contemporary styling with traditional silhouettes. All gowns are adjusted and tailored to fit the bride’s body type and style as an added service.
