Razzle Dazzle

MANILA, Philippines – In today’s “Look of the Week” holiday edition, we ask you to direct your attention to Emilio Pucci’s spring 2016 collection. Expect a plethora of sparkle and shine that, even in the subtlest lighting, will put your most expensive jewelry pieces to shame.

With the departure of Peter Dundas from the Italian fashion house, Massimo Giorgetti (founder of MSGM) debuts his first collection entitled “Episode 1” in Milan, and it’s anything but dull. Although the collection feels unfamiliar and lacks the polish and coherence of the iconic brand, the “new Emilio Pucci” doesn’t have to be known just for its signature prints for it to flourish. Giorgetti takes a new direction and emulates a collection fit for the urban mermaid — in other words, our YStyle woman.

The nautical-inspired looks were adorned with appliques of shells and sea creatures. Also present in the collection were Pucci’s signature scarves that were sewn together into a dress as well as goggle-inspired glasses and steppers covered in either pearls or feathers. Netted pants and blouses were all over the runway but it was the blue sequined dress over a long-sleeved striped shirt that garnered everyone’s utmost attention.

Let’s face it, nobody truly wants to be seen in a little black dress this holiday season so we suggest that you get inspired and be inspired by our YStyle woman’s Look of the Week.

BEAUTY: Jason Wu spring 2016

To be a modern muse, your attitude and look should more or less coincide. This look from Jason Wu veers away from the classic glamour association of the red lip and goes for a fresher and youthful look.

Tone down your look by pairing the red lip with, basically, nothing else. A trick that was used in the show was to pat loose red pigment on the lips for a thick velvet finish. Once you’ve got your red lip down simply fill in your brows slightly and conceal blemishes with a concealer to complete the look. Skip mascara, foundation and blush altogether and you’ve got a cool, raw look.

COFFEE: Stumptown Guatemala Finca El Injerto Gesha

While everyone’s ordering the #basic Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks, our YStyle woman’s been sipping a cup of one of the finest coffees Guatemala has to offer.

Elegant and complex, Gesha is considered one of the rarest and most unusual coffee variety’s known in the world. An ancient Ethiopian heirloom, the beans require hard work and lots of luck for to grow. This is where Stumptown taps a father-and-son team — also considered one of the best coffee-growing operations in Guatemala and among the top five in the world. Available for pre-sale only, these coffee beans go through one heck of a process to create the perfect cup just for you.

Rich in tropical notes, bergamot undertones and a nectarous sweetness, we’re pretty sure that with just one cup, you’ll be hooked this holiday season.

SKINCARE: Guerlain Super Aqua-Crème Day Cream

The secret to a holiday glow? Moisturizer.

It’s no secret that a proper skincare routine is preferred over layering piles of makeup that can clog your pores. Guerlain’s day cream will restore you skin and its youth and provides superior hydration throughout the day. The cream is meant to improve circulation and has age-defying ingredients that can smooth wrinkles and fine lines, leaving you with supple and radiant skin.

ACCOMMODATION: Nimb Hotel

Get away from the holiday madness and escape to one of Copenhagen’s hotels that do Christmas best.

Nestled within the grounds of Tivoli Gardens, the Nimb Hotel even from a distance looks like a miniature Taj Mahal. The five-star boutique hotel is a Moorish-inspired building that dates back to 1909. After a number of renovations, the hotel now looks grander than ever. Experience a Christmas like no other under their old ballroom’s crystal chandeliers where you can sample a festive five-course menu, followed by a trip around the magical Tivoli Gardens that’s covered in twinkling lights.

Feel festive and majestic at this boutique hotel that screams Christmas. When you do get the chance to go, tell us about it.

FILM: It’s a Wonderful Life

There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch with some hot chocolate, a box of tissues and a holiday flick.

A quintessential American classic, It’s a Wonderful Life is a film by Frank Capra that’s based on the short story "The Greatest Gift."  The iconic Christmas picture revolves around George Bailey, a middle-class fellow from Bedford Falls who finds himself in a difficult situation on Christmas Eve. Desperate and suicidal, George is saved by his guardian angel Clarence, who reminds him of the importance of family and friends.

The film initially bombed during its premiere but is now considered one of the 100 best American films ever made and one that you should see more than once.

JEWELRY: Oscar dela Renta spring 2016

Light yourself up this festive season in a shoulder-dusting piece that’s bound to turn heads.

The shinier the better is what we say and if you want something slightly less expected, then look no further. A YStyle woman is nothing without her jewels and this Oscar dela Renta crystal piece will have you looking from a zero to a bona fide fashion icon.

LIFESTYLE: Authentic British Blue Stilton Cheese

The best appetizers in the world involve no cooking — at least in our mind.

Quintessentially English, creamy blue Stilton cheese can make any holiday table feel and taste festive. Up the ante on your cheese selection with this artisanal blue cheese that uses a centuries-old practice to produce a slightly sweet yet nutty flavor. Created by the Long Clawson of Nottingham, the legendary cheesemakers are one of the only two still doing it by hand, specifically using local milk that has been pasteurized before use.

Pair it with raisins, grapes or your favorite wine; this cheese will send you to euphoria in no time.

SHOES: Dior spring 2016

If you can afford to buy a sparkly dress, then match it up with a pair of block-heel mules from Dior to complete your holiday ensemble.

Bursting with detail — cue all you minimalists out there — the teardrop-shaped heel is a pointy pair that’s sophisticated and is a head turner. The patent leather shoe includes a pulled sash with a D-ring detail, which provides a draping effect that’s ultra feminine and is so Dior.
