MANILA, Philippines - Whatever you think, think the opposite. In this week’s look of the week, we take inspiration from Fendi’s spring 2016 collection where Lagerfeld floats around the idea of opposition and romanticism.
His penchant for proportion, leather and fur is omnipresent in every collection and is the very core of Fendi. Lagerfeld changed the game by incorporating other fabrics in the mix — a bold move for the Italian fashion house at the time. For the spring 2016 collection Lagerfeld’s emphasized the fact that the look has no references but is simply about proportion. With puff-shoulder sleeves and high-neck collars it’s hard to deny that the collection could be an ode to the ‘80s and the Victorian period. With over 50 years experience as the brand’s creative director, Lagerfeld’s style is undeniably compelling and is always changing which is what one expects from a designer who is always on point.

Accessories: Salvador Dali Ruby Lip Brooch
“Poets of the ages, of all lands, write of ruby lips and teeth like pearls.”
Designed in 1949 by the surrealist artist Salvador Dali, the iconic brooch is covered in 200 pavé-set rubies and 11 spherical pearl teeth. Set in 18 karat gold, the brooch was made by Henryk Kaston from the 1970s through the 1980s. Modeled on Marilyn Monroe’s lips, there were only eight copies ever made. A challenge to cop one for yourself, but fret not as you can own a reproduction version from The Dali Museum for a fraction of the price.
You can still stand out in a Salvador Dali piece without having to break the bank.
Beauty: Lanvin spring 2016
In the golden age of neutral and natural, Lanvin surprises us with beauty that avoids the sallow look but brings to the fore a radiant version of yourself — surprise, it’s in Barbie’s favorite color.
A YStyle favorite, makeup artist Pat McGrath created a pretty pink eye makeup look to complement velvet fresh skin. A light coating of mascara on curled lashes brightens the look and groomed brows frame the whole look together. Step up your makeup game with this modern way of applying pink other than on your lips.
Jewelry: Gucci nail rings
They say it’s all in the details and the same can be said for the nail rings from the Gucci spring 2016 collection.
While everyone was focused on the looks, we were very much fixated on these gold jewels. An instant conversation starter, this jewelry piece could be your quick manicure fix. Who would refuse a Gucci piece like this?
Makeup: Lipstick Queen in You Kid
If there’s one shade to stock up on this season, it’s this understated yet eye-catching nude by Lipstick Queen.
The intensely rich lipstick formulation is inspired by the glamour girls of the silver screen. Achieve sumptuous, mouth-watering lips that are rich in pigment and at the same time easy to moisturize with just one swipe. Pucker up, ladies: trust that this nude lip won’t fade into the background.
Décor: Bauble Blossom
If you’re all about decorating your space in lavish, exceptionally unique pieces, then Kelly Wearstler’s got you covered.
Taking care of a plant can be tedious for a woman who’s got everything but time. The hand-sculpted, one-of-a-kind sculpture is a piece that doesn’t require any water or sunshine — it merely deserves the limelight. Composed of hand-carved marble, bronze and semi-precious stones, the Bauble Blossom’s bold silhouette can make a statement in any space.
Book: ‘Fendi’ by Karl Lagerfeld
With over 50 years as creative director for the Italian label, Karl Lagerfeld’s book features a compilation of interviews, drawings and recorded conversations spanning the last five decades. Considered the longest relationship in history between a designer and a fashion brand, this treasure chest of memories — literally packaged in a wooden box — contains exclusive material of about 200 sketches, a USB stick with MP4 files and a poster.
An essential for all Lagerfeld and Fendi aficionadas out there, this set is one not to miss out on.
Vanity case: Globe-Trotter
Nothing says class more than traveling with Globe-Trotter’s vanity case. Handmade from vulcanized fiberboard, this canvas-lined interior is our YStyle woman’s best travel companion. Complete with a detachable mirror and tray for smaller items, this carry-on piece is lighter than aluminum and is a perfect example of British craftsmanship.
Hair: Alberta Ferretti spring 2016
The most instant way to enter the season? Head first, of course.
Hairstylist Guido Palau channels Alberta Ferretti’s romantic style by creating twisted and pinned up-‘dos. Not the usual look of our YStyle woman, Palau played with loose layers to give a romantic, undone feel. Finish off the hairstyle with minimal gold-toned accessories for a timeless look.
