Top of the class
MANILA, Philippines - This fall, fashion sets its sights on the season’s statement accent — spiffy spectacles. Leave it to our favorite fashion houses to give good ol’ glasses a hip makeover, prescription lenses optional. Cases in point: chunky wayfarer styles are marbled and multicolored at Anna Sui for vintage boho appeal, clear rounded frames get the all-clear at Paul & Joe, and pastel cat eyes at Max Mara give the Marilyn Monroe-inspired collection a subtly sexy twist. Meanwhile, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele picked up where he left off in his fall debut as his retro-cool aesthetic continued on for resort 2016, where choice looks (among them a tri-tone fur coat embellished with diamanté dragonflies) are punctuated with tortoiseshell cat eye and half-rimmed renditions. Whether you’re eyeing a sleek rimless design or playful oversized frames, one thing is clear — eyeglasses are reserved for geeks no longer. Just for kicks, we test the trend on six high school stereotypes to see if it passed the test. The grade? 20/20.
