MANILA, Philippines - The Jewelry of Tanya Escaler is a collection that straddles three worlds — art, fashion and luxury. Escaler is an artist, a self-taught designer and painter, whose interest in jewelry design began out of necessity, if you could call it that. “I searched the art nouveau streets of Brussels and the vintage shops of Paris for a ring, but for years, I could not find the one,” she says. In February last year, her husband gifted her with a ring that she had designed for herself, a band that represented their marriage and family.
“The ring has a solid white gold band signifying life and love, with the center diamond being my husband and two smaller diamonds on each side being our two boys, the stones set high on a prong depicting a dream come true. Inspired by this, I designed more rings that signified the importance of one’s life,” she says.
Escaler’s first collection, Noir et Blanc, depicts life in light and darkness, in stillness and inspiration. It includes pieces that Escaler considers as her kind of classics — bold yet subtle, modern yet timeless.
Vous is a solitaire diamond on a prong, representing the bearer.
Past, Present, Future is a set of three rings that represents being at peace with life’s transitions. A ring in solid white gold is one’s foundation, a with a solitaire diamond is the present, and a ring with an eternity of diamonds is the future.
Mother and Child is a ring with two diamonds, one set high on a prong and another — a smaller one — beneath it.
Vie is a set of five separate, stackable rings, including a half-eternity, a thick white gold band, and a thin white gold band.
