MANILA, Philippines - From the 12 shortlisted artists and exhibitions for this year’s Ateneo Art Awards, three emerged as the winners of the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art: Charles Buenconsejo for “Destination Unknown” (shown at West Gallery), who was also named recipient of the Ateneo-La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre residency grant in Australia; Leslie de Chavez for “Complicated” (shown at Lopez Museum), who was also named recipient of the Ateneo-Liverpool Hope Creative Campus residency grant (Liverpool, United Kingdom), and Maria Jeona Zoleta for “The Unicorn Club” (shown at 1335 Mabini).
For the Purita Kalaw Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism, Carlomar Arcangel Daoana won for his essay on the Lopez Memorial Museum’s exhibit “Complicated“, entitled “Loss as Impetus of Discovery: A Review of Complicated.”
The Ateneo Art Awards 2014 exhibition will run at the Ateneo Art Gallery from Sept. 8 to Oct. 15.
