Anything could happen
MANILA, Philippines - UK pop star Ellie Goulding has consistently topped nearly all Best Dressed lists following her red carpet appearance at the VMAs. While her pumps were Bryan Atwood’s “Obsession,†people still had no idea who designed her nude floor-length gown covered with spikes until Goulding posted a photo of herself on Instagram with the caption: “Thank you to Furne one (sic) Amato Couture for this.†YStyle got in touch with the UAE-based Filipino designer who admitted, “I’m a fan, I like her music!†According to Ahlanlive.com, Furne One has dressed Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga in the past, but it was the dress he made for Rita Ora’s Sundance performance on New Year’s Eve that caught Goulding’s attention. However, One revealed that Goulding was the only star wearing Amato Haute Couture, saying, “She’s the new It girl.†However, One’s gown was purely for show: Since Goulding couldn’t technically sit in the dress, she changed into an all-black Saint Laurent Paris number, which was also studded, during the two-hour awards show.

Interview magazine’s September issue is here with seven covers that’ll allow you to choose among Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta and Daria Werbowy. In it, we get to read about one of our favorite topics: Just how difficult the life of a supermodel can be. For instance, Linda Evangelista recounts when she was sent to Tokyo alone at 16, then ran to the Canadian Embassy for help because she had to be photographed naked for her first shoot. (Okay, that is pretty traumatizing.) Amber Valletta talked about crying on the set of Italian Vogue because she had no idea what to do, and how she drifted apart from her half-sister because she couldn’t relate to her anymore. Christy Turlington admitted that she kind of regretted signing an exclusive contract with Calvin Klein in ‘88, and that during the heady days of the ‘80s and ‘90s when her career was at its peak, she felt exploited. But it’s Daria Werbowy’s drop quote that really takes the cake: “Sometimes I am still surprised that I’m a model and that people think I’m good-looking.†Supermodels: They’re just like us! For its 10th year, Opening Ceremony co-founders and creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon decided that the cult New York fashion label will finally be holding its inaugural solo fashion show during New York Fashion Week. And in order to make sure that the brand’s first NYFW show makes a splash — literally — they’ve decided to set up a pop-up shop market at Pier 57 in New York’s Hudson River Park from Sept. 5 to 12. Entitled Opening Ceremony BTW (as in, “by the waterâ€), the week-long market will feature Rihanna’s second collaboration for River Island, DKNY Exclusively for Opening Ceremony, along with North Brooklyn Collective bikes, plus food vendors, like Asia Dog, Café Habana, and Dominique Ansel Bakery — yep, the bakery that invented cronuts! “In light of the way we always tackle events, we decided that we wanted to activate (the fashion show) space for the entire week of fashion week,†Lim toldWWD. “It’s our version of giving guests the experience not only the day of the show. They can see curated fashion products and food.†Don’t pretend that you don’t want to be in NY for this! Sad face.
Designer chops
When a clothing brand decides to invite a supermodel to design a capsule collection for them, it’s pretty much a win-win situation for both: the model gets free clothing while cementing her status as a fashion icon, while the brand, in addition to winning over said model’s followers, bags a hot new endorser. Danish supermodel Freja Beha Erichsen, who has taken a hiatus from working the runways from New York to Paris this fall (“It just felt natural, at a point, not to do as many shows,†she told Style.com), has teamed up with LA-based Mother Denim to create and recreate a few of her favorite rock ‘n’ roll wardrobe pieces. These include skinny jeans called the Muse, printed jeans called Crystal Cove and the perfect chambray shirt called the Foxy Boxy. “I felt like doing something I wear all the time was much more in my power, because, clearly, I am not a designer,†she says. The collection will be available in Nordstrom next month with prices ranging from $145 to $300, but no word yet on whether they’ll be available online. Ten percent of all proceeds from sales will go to Erichsen’s favorite humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders.
“You have to love ze camera! You have to love ze cameraaaa!†Carine Roitfeld repeats during the first five minutes of her documentary Mademoiselle C, directed by Fabien Constant. A few weeks after the trailer was released earlier this month, the producers decided to seed the first five minutes of the film to a couple of fashion sites in order to build up the anticipation for the documentary’s premiere on Sept. 11. Considering the film is about Carine’s departure from Vogue Paris after 10 years in order to do a CR Fashion Book, a NY-based publication, we’re not sure how appropriate their chosen date is, but it definitely won’t hamper the excitement surrounding the film, which features interviews with Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci, Alexander Wang and Bruce Weber, just to name-check a few industry bigwigs. Apparently, though, somebody over at the NY Post, got to see preview the film ahead of its premiere date and reported that Carine’s first words after getting hold of her first grandchild were, “Am I going to fall in my super-high heels?†File that under “Sh*t Fashion People Say.â€
