Opening ceremony
MANILA, Philippines - Every year, Ayala Malls’ Style Origin opens with a declaration of trends through a fashion show and gala that presents capsule collections of each brand, always starting with Greenbelt’s roster of designer and retail mix.
The fashion show held recently at the Greenbelt 5 Fashion Walk, hosted by Marc Nelson, featured trends from Tod’s, Bally, Ermenegildo Zegna, Marc Jabobs, Azucar, Jewelmer, Religioso, Bonne Bouche, Jun Escario, Bergamo, Barba, E.pse, Charina Sarte, Bayo, Paul Smith, Raoul, Banana Republic, Jimmy Choo, Charriol, Michael Kors, AC+632, Boss, Furla, Aranaz and Albert Andrada.
Inspired by the styles of iconic individuals in the fields of fashion, food, music, architecture, art and entertainment, designers Albert Andrada, Joel Escober, Jerome Ang, Noel Crisostomo, Arleen Sipat-Sutton, Lulu Tan-Gan, Yvette Religioso-Ilagan and Choc Religioso-Dayrit and Ana Rocha created looks for show.
Trends endured, trends emerged –– one most evident is the return of the suit. But gone are the grim grays and bleak blacks; the new suit, whether casual, upper casual or formal, is fresh and young in gradients of blue, from navy to powder to indigo.
The influence of summer was also clear in the use of color: punchy citron and coral were abundant on the runway, as were flowing fabrics that moved with the wind in exaggerated and abridged hemlines.
Speaking of hemlines, the ladylike mid-calf hem made an appearance on slinky shifts, virginal white dresses and curve-hugging ensembles alike.
Swimwear leaned towards the ultra-feminine aesthetic as well in throwback one-piece suits, ruched and ruffled styles, and modest cuts.
Fashion continues with its series of nights out through Style Origin’s series of shows at different Ayala Malls, presenting the public with a new way to experience fashion, beauty and style.
Blue collar
The suit is in fashion, though not in its usual grim grays and bleak blacks. Try a suit in any gradient of blue –– from navy to powder to indigo –– in a casual fit that is loose around the waist but spiffy on the shoulders, for an upper casual look.
At the hem
The new hemline is modest, some merely gracing the knee and others mid-calf, adding a modern spin to formal wear.
Gone with the wind
The long and short of it is, flowing fabrics are in. As expected, the summer silhouette made several appearances on the runway in oceanic hues like moss, aquamarine, cobalt and one watercolor floral on a structured bodice.
Ruched and ready
Swimwear turns to vintage glamour, in modest cuts and shimmering nudes.
Absolut summer
Citron, coral and tangerine matched together or with crisp whites and grays are making a statement in urban wear, taking these otherwise poolside hues to the streets.
