MANILA, Philippines - IdKids is a creative collaboration between artist Nice Buenaventura and Ang Bandang Shirley frontman Owel Alvero. They also happen to be married. According to their website, they like to explore the different possibilities of medium and performance through illustration, graphic design, sound art, rudimentary filmmaking, and the worship of found objects and their subsequent transformation into readymades. — Cai Subijano
Which projects do you feel IdKids is most known for?
We recently designed two home decor items in collaboration with home design firm Heima, and we’ve been seeing a lot of people wearing the Ang Bandang Shirley’s Tama Na Ang Drama T-shirt, which we also designed.
When you hear YStyle, what kind of images or ideas do your minds conjure up?
Youth, our culture and good vibes!
What was your concept for the new YStyle logo?
With the really hot weather we’ve been having, we thought it would be cool to make it a sort of “radioactive†summer, conjuring up the kaiju monsters that Owel’s been obsessed with recently.
Who/what inspires your art?
Lots of things! Works by our friends including (but not exclusive to) Apol Sta. Maria, Rob Cham, Electrolychee, Mariano Ching, Yasmin Sison, Saturnino Basilia... Ang dami! We also really like modern and minimalist aesthetics. Stuff from the Bauhaus scene. Kandinsky, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, those guys.
What upcoming projects do you have?
We’re moving to a new place this month so we’re definitely going to be decorating and making items for the home. We’re collaborating with some people too, but we’ll let you guys know when the time is right.
