Scissor sister
MANILA, Philippines - Leave it Lena Dunham to chop off all her hair on a whim before heading out to NYFW and… not completely freak out about it right after. At Rachel Antonoff’s spring show, which she attended with her new boyfriend, Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff (yes, Rachel’s brother), Fashionista.com caught up the voice of our (?) generation. “I did it this morning! I finished shooting and I just had this moment where I thought that I could be… You know you always sort of dream you could be that girl who makes that radical choice, and (then you) look at your reflection on the subway and be like, ‘I kind of look like a boy. Whatever, it’s cool.’ So, I am embarrassed to say because it sounds so trite, but I looked at a picture of Carey Mulligan and then just went for it, but no one is doing it better than her so why not?” We wonder how Adam will react now that he and Hannah Horvath now have the exact same haircut. (He’ll probably love it as much as we love Lena.)
Nail trends
A little too attached to last season’s neon nail trend? Well, we hope you didn’t hoard any bottles because pastels and loud neons are out, while sober greys and dark neutrals are in, Fashionista.com reports. We call it the FLOTUS-effect (no, we refuse to give any credit to 50 Shades of Grey. Spare us.). Last week, when Michelle Obama made her awe-inspiring “mom-in-chief” speech, a lot of women were really moved… to find out what nail polish she was wearing. MSNBC did some digging and reported that it was Artistic Colour Gloss Soak Off Color Gel nail polish in Vogue. Chanel Les Essentiels also came out with a light gray called Frenzy, while Butter London Metallics came out with Dodgy Barnett, a silvery metallic gray. Metallics are a huge nail trend, as seen from the collections rolled out by Tom Ford, Estee Lauder and Deborah Lippmann, as well as lower-priced lines from Orly, OPI and Zoya. Dior even takes it a step further with super luxe cracked “crocodile nails.” Just perfect in time for the glittery holidays.
