Rogue magazine has a way of generating its own buzz — and not the kind caused by overenthusiastic Photoshopping. While they do encourage you to actually shop in their annual Style and Design issue, that’s not why people have been clamoring for advanced copies of the magazine. Cover lines like “Special Investigation: Bryanboy, An Explosive Exposé on the Superstar Blogger” and “Does Philippine Fashion Week Even Have a Point? Designers & Retailers Speak” have turned our local fashion industry topsy-turvy. After getting our sneak peek — replete with gossip that hits a little too close to home — we’ve concluded that sometimes, the actual truth is even more shocking than the dirtiest, most scandalous rumors. This is stuff that’ll keep Manila talking for months.
Black beauty
Okay, this isn’t exactly fashion news, but we had to put it here anyway: Lana Del Rey dyed her hair black. Stop the presses. Making an appearance at GQ Men of the Year awards, LDR showed up with rouge lips, dramatic eye makeup and jet-black locks. That is all. We can all go back to our real, kind of boring lives now.
All dressed-up
XOXO’s pre-fall collection is sexy, flirty and fun. Perfect for a night out clubbing or hitting a bonfire by the beach, their selection of cocktail dresses are suitable for many occasions.
Body conscious
House of Holland designer Henry Holland, a favorite of Brit it-girl Agyness Deyn, launched a line of glow-in-the-dark underwear. Sold exclusively at UK department store Selfridges, the campaign for the line was shot by photographer Ben Weller using… shall we say, not-so-fit models? Not that we're fat-shaming them — there is no way that these models are fat. In fact, it’s admittedly refreshing to see campaign models that are a little soft in the middle. More importantly, we’re relieved that little-to-no Photoshop was used for an underwear ad. Are you listening, Victoria’s Secret?
Fashion superstar
Nippon Vogue fashion editor Anna Dello Russo didn’t just design accessories for H&M — she sang and danced about them too. In a home-made music video entitled Fashion Shower, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Anna does her best interpretation of the Macarena in a tiny skirt while chanting “Fashion is uncomfortable.” Preach! The full music video drops on Oct. 4, along with her collection for H&M.
NYFW fit!
Not that we can totally relate, but almost every fashion-related blog and website is going into overdrive with the anticipation of New York Fashion Week. While we do have Philippine Fashion Week, we’re pretty sure that our version is lot less stressful and hectic than it is Stateside. Hilariously, the recently-married Man Repeller (aka Leandra Medine) uploaded a video of herself on her blog donning silver pants and sweatbands while blasting Eye of the Tiger in attempt to whip us all into NYFW-ready shape. In her words, “There’s no crying in Fashion Week!”
Sweet treats
Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz has been asked to design a special limited-edition box for French tea salon, Ladurée. Famed for their macaroons (you may have spotted their many cameo appearances in Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette), Ladurée has also asked designers Christian Louboutin, John Gallian and Christian Lacroix to design collectible boxes for them. The Lanvin box will be available in France, the UK, and US on Sept. 25 and in Japan on Sept. 28. With eight delicious macaroons inside, you can’t fault us for being sold on just the pretty packaging.
