Dressing like a literary giant

MANILA, Philippines - As sartorial inspirations go, Zadie Smith is at the top of my list. Bookish, talented and beautiful, the White Teeth and On Beauty author who sees a new novel in print this September is a formidable influence in the literary world. London-born Smith currently resides in New York, splitting her time between both cities. (“I think to genuinely have two countries, as a writer, is a very rare thing,” she tells The New Yorker.) As a result, her wardrobe, often a blend of vintage cuts, ethnic prints and sinuous patterns, reflects the polarity in timezone and culture. Nubby sweaters, wildly-patterned tunics, a black shift dress or two, frequently paired with a turban, constitute an eclectic style that is all her own.

In homage to Smith, YStyle assembled ensembles that wouldn’t look out of place at a book party or poetry reading.
