MANILA, Philippines - When making a salad, you throw together mostly disparate ingredients that combine to make a sumptuous whole.

That is how Willar Mateo came up with his clothing line Salad Day. For the label’s debut collection Random Candies, Mateo mixed tailoring, draping, print manipulation, and minimalist elements into pieces that are intricate on their own but also work well when mixed with other items. Mateo’s experiences working at the I Love You Store and with designer Gian Romano served as sources of ideas for the collection, whose aesthetic can be described as edgy but tempered with a hint of sweetness.
