MANILA, Philippines - Apol Sta. Maria spent much of the summer in search of something. “I looked for my pet cat Shampoo who got lost for a while,” he tells YStyle. The artist responsible for this month’s cheery logo, Sta. Maria was inspired by Flores de Mayo, evoking the pleasant, playful elements of the annual event. Working on a central theme of “the flowers of May and some creatures who live in them,” Sta. Maria fashioned YStyle’s most winsome logo to date, with its otherworldly figures.

An admirer of graphic gods Stefan Sagmeister and Michael Allred, Sta. Maria is in the business of image-making. “I art for advertising and I art for comics, too,” he informs us. Currently in the works are “advertisements, a music video for Hannah + Gabi, a komikbook for the future, a community art project curated by J.Pacena, and many others.”
