A suitable proposition

MANILA, Philippines - Though Joey Samson refers to this style of dressing as laid-back, there’s nothing of the slacker to be seen here. The designer recently produced suits in head-to-toe prints. It’s a style he dubs “pajama dressing,” on account of the soft, slouchy fabrics that make up the ensemble. Though his sharp tailoring skills keep it far from louche territory, Samson considers it an easy proposition: “It instantly gives you a luxurious yet very relaxed, laid-back feel,” he says.

“Besides being a current trend, pajama dressing is something I always enjoy revisiting as much as I love working with the tuxdeo. From the fabric to the print and subtle detailing, I think it’s a piece I will never get tired of using or reinventing.”

Versace, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Akris, Suno and Marc Jacobs have made liberal use of the print: slouchy trousers with a high-neck blouse primly tucked in or a matching jacket insouciantly swinging open.

It’s a look designed for wallflowers who like garbing themselves in wallpaper.
