Philippine Fashion Week Review: Takes on tribal, color and texture
Eric de los Santos’ fine feathers
MANILA, Philippines - Although the palette was dark and it felt more like fall/winter in de los Santos’s show, it didn’t take away the workmanship, imagination and thought that went into each piece he created. Alongside his usual floral printed chiffon dresses were a lot of feather skirts, loose pants and leatherette tops and accents. It provided an interesting mix in texture and cut, reminiscent of Balenciaga and Rodarte, albeit lacking in luxe.
Chris Diaz’s tribal wars
Tribal was the operative theme at Chris Diaz at the SMDC show last week as seen in the bold and colorful bib necklaces used against the vibrant colors of his garments. Turquoise, coral, silver gray and purple was the palette of choice, made into A-line dresses, maxi skirts, long gowns and even swimwear. The theme continues in the textured fabrics that had an organic pleated effect which gave the gowns a more relaxed, casual vibe — ideal for summer parties. Fringe was also a favorite detail, spotted everywhere from bikini tops, shift dresses and coverups.
