A future with Zara and Tom Ford

-

MANILA, Philippines - In the dystopian future world of Andrew Niccol’s In Time, time is money.

Highlighting the film’s great stylistic elements is costume designer Colleen Atwood whose credits include The Tourist, Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, Nine, Memoirs of a Geisha, Silence of the Lambs, Edward Scissorhands, and Gattaca.

“We envisioned In Time taking place in the near future, with a much more minimal existence than we know today. The idea was to dress the actors in classic, timeless clothes for the wealthy and utility wear — or uniforms — for the poor, combined with cheap ‘flash’ for nights out in their desperate attempt to be lively,” says Atwood. She utilized the closets of Zara, YSL, Tom Ford, Dries Von Noten, Prada, Dior and Lanvin and a host of avant-garde designers. Starring Justin Timberlake, a struggling everyman, and Amanda Seyfried, a beautiful, bored heiress, the film strives for the glib future-cool language Gattaca pioneered when it debuted in the late ’90s.

In Time opens Oct. 28 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
