MANILA, Philippines - A potent mix of skin canvases, unconventional art, and awesome music await tattoo lovers, rock fans and devotees of the alternative lifestyle at Dutdutan XI, the annual event that serves a fatal dose of one unique culture encounter.
This two-day exclusive event, set to roll today, will feature the country’s finest and most notorious inkers as well as their works or art. Possibly the biggest tattoo expo yet, two halls at the World Trade Center will feature 160 tattoo artists in an 80-booth setup. Expect live demonstrations of these artists at work.
Main presenter, Tribal Gear Phils., is also bringing in a crew of special guests including the equally-celebrated 51 Fifty duo drummer Dustin J and DJ Presto One. This drummer/ DJ combo has already made a name for itself on the celebrity-soaked Las Vegas strip, and is set to turn heads and captivate crowds at this year’s Dutdutan ‘11 gig. Also celebrating the hunt for the perfect ink in Manila is infamous inker and Orange County homeboy Big Tiny of Unauthorized Ink.
Dutdutan ‘11 will also hold its usual lineup of hardcore feats such as the annual tattoo competition where local and international tattoo artists (from LA, France, Singapore and Malaysia, to name a few) will battle for creativity and innovation under various categories. “Tattoo of the Day” remains the most coveted award as artists who compete for this category create their entries on the day itself. Awards will be given out at the end of each night for those works that will merit the spotlight.
Also watch out for Tribal Gear and FHM’s bikini contest; URCC’s combat exhibition games; Drum Duel’s hunt for the best amateur drummer, with 51 Fifty drummer Dustin J to jam with the winner; and Pinas Lowridaz display of their dopest lowrider bikes. Live performances from a roster of equally notorious bands in the country today namely Valley of Chrome, General Luna, Tanya Markova, Franco, Chicosci, Grin Department, Sinosikat, Maplesyrup, The Breed, Kamikazee, The Dawn and more are expected to create this affair the ultimate tattoo party.
Tickets for Dutdutan ‘11 are available at selected Tribal boutiques, at P250 for a one-day pass or P450 for a two-day pass. For more details, log on to www.dutdutan.com.ph or www.facebook.com/dutdutan, or call 0917-8593759.
