Ferdi Abuel tries his hand at tailoring
MANILA, Philippines - Better known for his feminine gowns and cocktail dresses in delicate chiffon and silk, Ferdi Abuel surprised and aptly wowed the crowd with his mostly tailored pieces at last week’s Fashion Watch.
Flawlessly-made jackets paired with peplum skirts created a modern/retro feel with the help of electric blue and tangerine accents on the fabric, creating a web-like effect that was unexpected and fresh. The two shades were also seen in chiffon tunic tops and Grecian-themed dresses, artfully draped with a crisscross binding effect on the bodice. Lace print fabric in different shades of gray came next, seen in cocktail dresses and again, as a tailored jacket in a print-on-print combination that blended beautifully. The last print showcased was somewhat of a combination of both colorful shades in a watercolor print, seen in trademark Abuel bohemian-inspired dresses. Abuel’s attempt at tailoring, clearly out of the box for the seasoned dress designer, was successful in showing off another strong side of his expertise that will surely be embraced by his loyal followers.
