As SM Department Store’s collection for Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011 proves, it’s always tropical weather in our little corner of the world, even during the latter part of the year. Pairings of brilliant color, pattern-mixing and, unconfined ’70s-inspired silhouettes are all tributes to our nearly year-round sunshiny weather, as well as make up the most visible trends of the year.
Color-blocked ensembles made up the first part of SM’s show for PFW. Teals mixed with fuchsia or emeralds paired with aquas are not uncommon sightings on the streets these days but SM updates the trend by presenting it as chic cocktail wear. These dazzling colors are seen on satiny halter tops, flowy knee-length skirts and loose silken cropped pants.
A melange of prints came down the catwalk next, mostly impressed on loose resort wear. Maxi dresses with kaleidoscopic prints, striped ankle-length boho skirts and banded ponchos enlivened both sight and spirits, calling to mind pristine white-sand stretches, curved chaise lounges and equally colorful cocktails.
A complete turnaround from all the color and dizzying patterns, the next set of ready-to-wear pieces featured the lightness of whites and neutrals. Grecian-inspired dresses, lacy frocks and structured two-piece ensembles featured the varying shades of white and beige, from pristine white to elegant ivory to matte ecrus.
So if you’re planning to spend the holidays lounging at the beach during skin-baring weather, SM Department’s collection for Philippine Fashion Week has got you covered.
