From the past to the future, with a side trip to the underworld

-

MANILA, Philippines - Chris Diaz, Jerome Salaya Ang and Kermit Tesoro are part of the new breed of breakthrough designers, each with their own very unique sensibilities. — ANC

Sweet retro glamour

With silhouettes predominantly from the ’50s (although he dips into Flapper and Mod territory here and there) Diaz turns on the sheen with jewel tones and keeps things ladylike with lace. The designer’s love for referencing eras past is evident yet never nostalgic, and we’re prepared to be swept away.

Dark was the night

Theatrical and gothic, Jerome’s collections alway seem to throw Fashion Week off-kilter with the dark energy of his outfits, yet this time it was certainly apt for the Halloween weekend. Not that he can’t do pretty, for his nude Grecian gowns bear only a hint of madness. The rest is let loose on cyber/tribal/urban warrior gear and apocalyptic prom dresses.

Kick Ass

Philippine fashion’s emerging wunderkind gives us summery sculptural platforms paired with paneled bodysuits and bodycon dresses which look part alien, part athletic. Occasionally accessorized with armor, one can choose to shed the cocoon and just be the baddest chrysalis in town.
