And the Fashion Week beat goes on. The Premiere B show last Saturday presented four on-the-verge young female designers’ visions for spring/summer. Alodia Cecilia and Lizanne Cua kept things simple and reined in, while Emily Sy and Joyce Pilarsky went for maximum frill, all to different effect.

Neutral knots
A very promising young designer, Alodia’s signature hand-knots and gathers become the primary construction detail on her most minimalist collection yet, rendered in a muted palette of solid colors. The silhouette is mostly loose and louche, but the pieces manage to be strikingly sophisticated despite their simplicity.
Ruffles and things
Interesting color combinations that don’t actually look good together, and a penchant for the overly ruffled bring to mind a Rennaisance fair. Her pieces that do work stick to a maximum of two themes, not the whole kit and caboodle.

There’s something deliciously camp about this collection. It assaults you with its profusion of glitter, floral appliques and bold fruity colors, but it’s also done tongue-in-cheek. It’s resortwear on acid.

Jersey sure
Eye-catching primary colors are a departure from last seasons numbing neutrals, but this was still a largely uneventful showing of jersey tunics, which will look good on you already anyway.
