Milan bursts with splashes of color

-

MANILA, Philippines - Bold colors dominated the runways of Milan Fashion Week, shaking up the city’s recent obsession with minimalism. Designers upped the ante with offerings that were on the opposite end of the usual Milanese spectrum.

Foremost in infusing color to the city’s fashion bloodstream was Raf Simons for Jil Sander. In a sportswear-meets-couture show, neon brights and silhouettes reminiscent of 1960s couture dresses colored the catwalk of what was declared as the best show of the week.

Versus, Versace’s younger line, cuts from the same cloth with its collection of skin-tight, PVC-panelled dresses done in shades like turquoise and tomato red.

The Prada collection reached for the limits of whimsy with its outrageous prints coupled with bold punches of color. Giant stripes and monkey prints echoed the playfulness bouncing off the runways of Milan.

Giorgio Armani gave his own take on bold colors in a show entitled “La Femme Bleue”. Inspired by the indigo-hued robes of the nomads of the Sahara, the designer sent out models wearing tunics over tapered trousers, turbans and chiffon navy robes done in varying shades of indigo.

All in all, Milan Fashion Week was a study in color from the brightest shades to the deepest hues — a rainbow of creation in its own right.
