MANILA, Philippines - “Have fun with fashion! After all it’s the most wonderful and glamorous time of the year!”declares Teresa Herrera, the model and host making a splash all over Manila. Dressing up for holidays fetes is a cinch. Teresa takes a tour through The Ramp Crossings to show us what’s big for this season — and the ones to follow.
Learn to layer. If you have a packed schedule like Teresa, filled with meetings from morning till night, with no time to head home after work to prep for a night of play, layer pieces that’ll alter your basics into something party-friendly. She recommends wearing a draped jersey shirt over liquid leggings from Abrace. Just remember to bring a sharp shoulder jacket to jazz up your look. She says that if your schedule takes you from day to night, your outfits should be able to catch up too.
Invest in key pieces. To stretch your wallet and style, she recommends trying on a trend that’ll last — and translating it into different looks. Her advice: You can take a little feathered black dress through different occasions by styling it with a jacket or tights. Pile on some enamel bangles or wear a satin headpiece for one event and change your accessories with the addition of a zebra print skinny belt or embellished gloves and you can have different looks with the same dress.
Don’t be afraid to shine. “I like sparkly and shiny things!” Teresa says. A few brightly-hued pieces can make you the star of the party. Take an embellished one-shoulder jersey dress to an office bash. A purple one shoulder satin dress is perfect for celebrating with friends. Put on something festive like a red tulle skirted dress from Wildflower for New Year’s. Bring on the shine in a plum sequined dress. It can take you from party to club and keep the holiday vibe going.
Accessorize to maximize. Emphasize one key area with a statement necklace or layer on the bangles. Keep the edge during Christmas with the trend that is all over the international runways: studs and rivets. Grab that leather studded clutch or studded round-toe platform pumps and stand out from the crowd. “After all, unexpected details are the best waker-upper to any outfit,” Teresa says.
