Blast from the past
MANILA, Philippines - When it comes to fashion we can’t help but get swept away by its romantic era — when Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly shone on the silver screen and crotch shots were an alien idea.
There was no such thing as semi-formal, rather elegance was clocked in 24 hours a day. Try as we might to be progressive with avant-garde fashion, for every lady who is still a little girl inside these nostalgic silhouettes are still what we all vie for. The era of elegance has made a comeback, as seen on the small screen with Mad Men and with fashion icons like Dita Von Teese and Eva Mendes who channel this look regularly. It’s easy to get swept away.
Turkish designer Yildirim Mayru, during a fashion show as part of the “Stories to 2023” event in Istanbul a few days ago, illustrates this charmed life. Wear a fox fur stole to lunch, grace every cocktail party in fringe and sequins and steal every moment with a cinched waist. Keeping the romantic look modern, Yildirim uses cheeky fabric like sheer chiffon to reveal boy-cut knickers or breaks into color, like when he dyed a fur stole a deep coral. A way to keep things unpredictable and fresh. — Celine R. Lopez
