MANILA, Philippines - The Iyengar Yoga Center Manila (IYCM), home of the Iyengar style of yoga and the Philippines’ only certified Iyengar yoga teachers, welcomes back Mumbai-based senior teacher Jawahar Bangera, who will be teaching yoga workshops for beginner, basic, and advanced practitioners from Sept. 14 to 20 at the IYCM studio in Makati.
Iyengar yoga, named after its founder, living yoga master BKS Iyengar, has been called the most precise of yoga styles, paying special attention to precision and alignment. Bangera has been a student of BKS Iyengar since 1969, and is “still a student,” he says. He has been teaching yoga for almost three decades, and travels regularly all over the world to teach and hold workshops. He graced the IYCM studio four years ago; this is his second visit to Manila.
The Basic Workshop will be held from Sept. 14 to 16, Monday to Wednesday, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. This is for students of all levels of experience, including beginners and students new to yoga or the Iyengar method, as well as regular practitioners.
The Intermediate Workshop will be held Sept. 17 to 20, Thursday to Sunday, same times for the sessions. This is for more advanced practitioners with prior exposure to Iyengar yoga who can come up in independent salamba sarvangasana (shoulder stand) and supported/independent salamba sirsasana (head stand).
Rates are P1,500 per session; P3,000 per whole day of two sessions; P8,000 for the three-day beginners’ workshop; and P10,500 for the four-day intermediate workshop. A practitioner may opt to attend all or just one of the sessions. In light of the limited capacity of the studio, make your reservations as soon as possible. IYCM is at the 21st floor, LKG Tower, 6801 Ayala Avanue, Makati City. For inquiries and reservations, call Saree at 753-4495 and 0917-5359711, or check www.iyengaryogamanila.com.
