Top 10 beauty trends for 2010

FASHION FIX - Hindy Weber-Tantoco -

One of my favorite things in the world is color and how it translates into my life in the form of clothing, home décor, lipstick, hair, skin, food, everything. I used to wonder why on earth there is such a thing as color trends when, to me, color has the intrinsic characteristic of being timeless. How is it possible to subjugate one specific color to being in or out? But because of our ever-changing, ever-fickle human tastes, we have managed to possess certain colors into a tool for self-expression, a tool to help define ideas. Thus, colors have been subject to our human tendency towards newness and the next big thing. I’ve listed my Top 10 Beauty Trends for 2010, many of which are totally influenced by color. After all, isn’t our body the finest canvas of all?

Emphasized eyebrows

Eyelashes are so 2002. Get ready for glued-on brows, painted brows and brow art. Those in the Holly Fulton autumn/winter ’09 runway are just one example. And check out Mrs. Spock in Gianfranco Ferre’s collection.

Shaved heads

This is my all-time fave look for next year. (I am so tempted!) I don’t know about you guys but I think Amber Rose rocks it and rolls it. If you can’t handle the full monty, you can take it halfway like Rihanna.

Woven tresses

Alexis Mabille placed black satin ribbons neatly on the parting of the head before wrapping it around the nape. This is a great new look for Blair Waldorf groupies.

Gray hair

Fashion’s having a senior moment. This is platinum blonde taken to the next level. I’m so looking forward to my 60s now.

Apricot hair color

Iconic designer Vivienne Westwood has been rocking this look for years. Seen all over London on the runway and onstage with the likes of Beth Ditto, apricot color works best on shorter or curly ‘dos.

Space-age sheen

Complexions are radiant and luminous with the use of highlighter across the cheekbone, under the brows and on the nose. Best on fair-skinned ladies. Make sure you use the right kind of highlighter that still manages to look matte, not oily.

Eighties volume hair

The ’80s is back for real, so just deal with it. Heck, it’s even managed to creep back into our hairdos.   I think it’s a welcome change from all the pobs (Posh’s bob) we’ve been seeing all over. Now, if only someone would come up with a non-toxic hairspray!

Wet look and slicked back hair

If I don’t have the guts to shave my head, this is one look I’ll be sporting. In fact, I did the wet slick back on models for my holiday campaign. The Robert Palmer video still makes such a huge impact. Simply irresistible!

Nail art

The reverse French manicure as seen on Christian Dior is an example. J-Salon, this Japanese hair studio in Salcedo Village, has so many fun options to choose from.

Blotted-out eyebrows

Told you eyelashes were out. It’s all about the brows now. First they were exaggerated, now they’re nowhere to be found. My son thinks it looks freaky. I tend to agree, so I’d save this for runway shows or photoshoots.
