MANILA, Philippines - Despite the deluge of rainfall and harbingers of doom may be telling you — it still is summer. A damp, humid, dreary summer, but summer nonetheless. Don’t let the weather drag you down. Lead the way in sparkly brights, neon hues and electric pops of color. YStyle recreated Louis Vuitton’s wildly popular elevated ponytail, which debuted at the spring-summer show, with P50 shoelaces, proving that you don’t need a lot of cash to get some bang for your style.

The look is simple to achieve. Set your hair in a centered high ponytail — the closer to God, the better. Wrap the sleek strands with a shoelace, tucking the end into the rubber band cinching your hair and continue to loop it until you’ve created at least three inches of neon lace-covered hair. Finish with a hairpin to secure the end of the shoelace. Easy, pretty and fun hair is now a shoelace away.

After setting the hair, model Ana Sideco was dressed in peppy, ‘80s-inspired sportswear — all of it retailing under P1,000. Think tie-dye jeans, belt bags and oversize shirts with graphic prints. Ensembles so eye-catchingly bold they put Olivia Newton-John’s Let’s Get Physical video to shame can make even the dreariest of summers bright. Now if only we could do something about the heat.
