Who's got the beat?
MANILA, Philippines - Burberry’s The Beat fragrance for men is about the guy who lives in the moment, with a sort of “disheveled elegance,” a style and attitude that is young, modern, masculine and dynamic. Sort of the male version of Agyness Deyn — and the campaign stars the androgynously hot (but skinny!) Britsh men Alex Pettyfer, an actor, George Craig, the vocalist of One Night Only, Will Cameron, musician and model, Kristian Walker, guitarist of Last Gang, and Jonny Epstein, a creative artist. The Beat is a fresh woody fragrance, with notes of leatherwood, vetiver bourbon, cedrat, black pepepr and violet leaves.
Cherry blossom girl
Inspired by hanami, the Japanese tradition of appreciating the short-lived but intensely beautiful blooming cherry blossom and their falling petals in the breeze, The Body Shop’s new collection captures the idyllic mood and memories that are both lyrical and moving. The Japanese Cherry Blossom fragrance used across the range has top notes of Fuji apple, Chinese magnolia and osmanthus flower, mingling with the middle notes of star jasmine, sakura and persimmon, and base notes of sandalwood, hinoki wood and fruity musk. And like most of Body Shop products, they include Community Trade ingredients which help out farmers and producers in more than 20 countries.
King of the court
Rafael Nadal, world’s number one tennis player and Spanish cutie, lends his name to Lanvin L’Homme Sport, imbuing the fragrance with his own characteristics of power, speed, movement, determination and charisma. The aromatic woody cologne delivers a contrasting score with notes of citrus, lemon, Italian bergamot, petitgrain and pepper, with a heart of sage and lavender, and base notes of patchouli and a hint of moss.
Scentsational summer
Burberry Summer fragrances for men and women have been re-interpreeted to capture the essence of a perfect summer evening by the beach—and if you’re thinking sultry nights with fruity cocktails, a bonfire, and lush tropicalia, then you got it. Burberry Summer for Women limited edition is a radiant green fruity floral fragrance with top notes of Riesling, redcurrant, and lychee with fresh citrus mandarin notes, heart notes of freesia, water jasmine, rose and cyclamen, and sensual musk notes wrapped in white cedarwood and sandalwood. The mens’s version is a citrus aqueous woody fragrance with green top notes of lime, yuzu and Granny Smith apple, wood notes of thyme, gorse bush and driftwood, and dry down notes of amaris, cedarwood, amber and white musk. The hazy bottles resemble a pink sunset and the blue sea for the girls and boys respectively.
“Shell Shocked” opens tonight
The Wall @ Mag:net Cafe High Street is hosting “Shell Shocked,” an exhbit opening tonight at 6:30 p.m. and running until Sunday, May 10.
Papua New Guinea artist Jodam Allingam lives in the Philippines, with studios in Pasig and Romblon. He will be showing sculptures in Romblon stone and paintings inspired by the scenery and shapes of the ocean and the shore. He is also an advocate of teaching the local Filipino masons to create contemporary sculpture rather than just copy art.
“The beauty of the twists and turns of the shells can only be appreciated by those who are actually observing closely. In this case I have chosen to do extensive research and then explore the shapes in marble, recreating them on a larger scale so that the viewer can enjoy their unique attraction.
“People who engage with me when I am creating my artwork in Romblon are poor villagers. They carve to survive by copying existing images. I believe that ideas can be shared, refined and developed without the need for copying, and that these crafts persons can become powerful and creative artists in their own right,” says the artist.
At the launch, acoustic artist Joniver will play from 9 p.m., followed by Nyko Maca & Playground.
Mag:net Cafe is at 2/F Block 3, 9th Avenue, Bonifacio High Street, Global City.
Protect your lips, protect your life
MTV and The Body Shop’s new campaign for 2009 moves from focusing on HIV awareness to knowledge of HIV prevention. The Tantalizing Lip Butter is packaged with a “Yes Yes Yes / Oui Oui Oui” slogan, referring to saying yes to fighting HIV. Proceeds from the butter will continue to be donated to the Staying Alive Foundation, which seeks to help prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination. In the Philippines, the Staying Alive Foundation has chosen BALUTI (Batang Laging Umiiwas sa Tiyak na Impeksyon) as their local partner to receive the proceeds of the Tantalizing Lip Butter.
