Man flower
MANILA, Philippines - Kenzo has always created fragrances that were unconventional, memorable, yet utter classics. Who can forget the beach-inspiring aquatic scent of L’eau par Kenzo, or the still very popular Flower by Kenzo? A new fragrance for men has just been introduced— Kenzo Power. Its inspiration is a flower, but not any particular one, just the collective idea of what a flower is. A floral scent for men, you say? Kenzo Power is strangely alluring. It does begin with an abstract citrus florality that would make you think this scent belongs on a woman. But a blend of woody amber, spices and zest begins to emerge, creating a more masculine flavor, giving way to bergamot, coriander and cardamom at the rich and warm heart. After five minutes, Tolu balm, cedar wood and labdanum finish the scent with a depth that is seductive and nonchalant.
The bottle is a silver flask inspired by a sake bottle designed by Kenya Hara — minimal, modern and of course, very Zen. This is no heavy, musky Old Boys Club perfume, that’s for sure. But it is not namby pamby either — it belongs on a man of strength and simplicity, a contradictory and complex character, and — dare we say it — a poetic one.
