Thursday is the new weekend

Teenage dreamin’: Janine Gutierrez inside the Combi.

MANILA, Philippines - It seems that everyone broke their school night curfew last week.

Young STAR celebrated its third annual #YSProm last Thursday, in what might have been the kiddie party to end all kiddie parties. (Allow us to toot our own horns for a bit.) Friends and fresh faces from the film, music, fashion and art scenes relived their childhoods and hung out at the rooftop of The Link in Makati to celebrate Young STAR’s 20th birthday celebration.

In true ‘90s fashion, Serious Studio designed a party for us that brings back our love for all things bagets — think party hats, photo walls for perfect Instagrammin’ and a Combi that takes us right back to the good old days.

After swimming in our ball pit and jumping in our bouncy castle, guests cured their munchies with the best birthday grub from 8 Cuts, which served up sliders, spaghetti, chicken and iced tea. Manila Creamery treated everyone to a sweet surprise — besides their customized Young Star flavor (peanut butter gelato as base topped with Nips and Curly Tops), they also offered some of their bestselling flavors: ube, keso and cereal milk. For dessert, Cupcakes by Sonja baked us an 18-inch buttercream cake — with the appropriate 20 candles of course — and served up their new donuts to our guests. Smirnoff Mule was free-flowing that night too, because you can never have too many draanks.

And in true birthday party fashion, Wanderland co-presented a great selection of entertainment. Musical acts that night came in the form of crowd favorite Cheats and emerging talent Manila Magic. Our headliner served as a bit of nostalgia for the audience: unofficial queen Kitchie Nadal. (Hands up if you’re still hooked on Wag na Wag Mong Sasabihin on Spotify.) To cap the night, St. Vincent and the Grenadines played some of our favorite tunes as the party slowed down.

And of course, Young STAR awarded the winners of #YSProm. Congrats to Janine Gutierrez and Emil Khodaverdi for being the Wanderland x YSProm Queen and King, and for winning tickets to Wanderland 2017. Soleil Ignacio and Kris Abrigo won the Human Best Dressed Award, taking home gift certificates from Human for fashion that’s totes extra. In true #relationshipgoals fashion, Cenon Norial III and Mav Bernardo won the Power Mac Center Power Couple of the night. They took home two Apple Beats by Dre Solo 2 Headphones, which we’re totally jealous of. Proving to be liveliest kids on the dance floor, Reese Lansangan, Kookie Santos and Koji Arboleda won the National Book Store Bibo Kid of the Night, taking home a ton of books that’s perfect for some post-dancing chilling out. Last but not the least, the squad of bloggers Bea Marin, Jeline Catt and Kush Obusan took home the Hoodwink Squad of the Night award, showing some sweet solidarity in their cute outfits. These girls brought home shirts from Hoodwink — we can’t wait to see them in their next OOTDs.

With a rooftop party like this, we literally can’t think of another way to top this night. See you again next year!
