MANILA, Philippines - These days, it doesn’t take much for anyone to produce media content. You don’t even need to have a studio or a big budget to begin with. Equipment is more affordable than ever and young Filipino creatives have learned to make do with the things that are available to them. Coming up with content seems to be the easy part; getting it across to your audience is now the greater challenge. At a time when anyone can upload anything to the Internet, great ideas and talent alone don’t always cut it anymore.
Thankfully, Para Sa Sining is always here to help. Passionate about sharing Filipino art and culture, they organized Katha: Musika X Pelikula 2016 Bagong Simoy. On Oct. 14-15, a selection of feature short films will be live-scored by different musicians. The event will also mark the start of the new season for Para Sa Sining that will close in May 2017. It will feature eight unique collaborations that celebrate different forms and genres together. The music ranges from indie-folk to hip-hop, but if that’s not your thing, other Katha events this season will also feature other art forms like spoken word poetry. By having NGOs like Para Sa Sining around, the future of Filipino art and culture seems to be in good hands.
