Back to Katigbak
MANILA, Philippines – It’s often said that writers don’t get enough credit — financially and otherwise. That’s why those who not only excel at it but truly champion the craft come few and far between. And that rarity only means that we should do what we can to not only preserve their work and legacy but to also help them when they are in need in more practical ways. Luis Katigbak has, for more or less a decade, been one of our country’s best writers. His work has garnered numerous awards, his words published in numerous magazines and broadsheets, and his lectures and writing seminars have done more for the future of Philippine writing than many of his peers. He is one of the most brilliant literary minds today, and his stories are far from finished.
Sadly, due to his health, Luis’ writing and many other things he loves doing have had to take a back seat these past several months. While battling various ailments, Luis has been fighting to get better as he goes in and out of the hospital. Last December, news came that he is in great need of help and financial assistance. With Luis in mind, his closest and dearest friends got together to produce a benefit gig to provide aid for Luis’ continued care. Entitled “Subterrania Sessions,” the fundraiser will happen this Jan. 31 over at Route 196 along Katipunan Extension in Quezon City. This is a can’t-miss concert fundraiser featuring some of the country’s best performers: Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, along with Ciudad,Tarsius, Lourd de Veyra and Diego Castillo, Dong Abay with Kakoy Legaspi among others. All proceeds will help pay for Luis’ hospital costs and medical needs.
Along with this benefit gig, art gallery Blanc will also be doing an art sale with proceeds going to Luis’ continued medical care. Currently being sold at Blanc Katipunan, anyone with a charitable heart can purchase works from a variety of artists like Soler Santos, Zean Cabangis, Nicole Coson, Lena Cobangbang, Carina Santos, Jel Suarez, Zues Bascon, Luis Santos and many more. The sale is happening now and those interested can head on over to Blanc along Katinpunan Extension.
It’s also said that life can be cruel. But we don’t have to be. If you’re a friend or fan of Luis, we hope to see you there and your donations will go a long way. For those unfamiliar with Luis, we invite you to still head on out to Route 196 and learn more about Luis while enjoying these special one-night-only performances.
