The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Mass communication, in this day and age, is not just about delivering a message. It is about creating an experience for the viewer that is only possible in the media landscape. Luckily, that is what the Student Media Congress aims to help us with.

Now in its third year, the Congress is pushing the boundaries further with the theme Experiencing Media Dynamics. To be held from Oct. 16-17 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium in De La Salle University, the congress aims to gather 1,100 participants from different universities and colleges around the Philippines. Industry speakers like Manix Abrera, Erwin Romulo, Pia Hontiveros, Abbey Sy, and Supreme’s Pepe Diokno will talk about how one can be creative by connecting and making an impact through media because, after all, the tool is only as powerful as your imagination.

At the same time, the Congress aims to go beyond talk by planning to assist a chosen public high school in their lack of media equipment like digital camera or Internet-enabled computers after the event. With five plenary talks, five competing workshops, and 60 non-competing workshops in two days and a beneficiary project in the works, this year’s Student Media Congress is as promising as the dynamic tool that it promotes.
