Something in the air
Abandoned houses are left locked and untended for reasons unknown to the passerby. To the average eye, the house is a simple case of foreclosure. On the other hand, the house contains a story, a sequence of secrets as to why it is now in shambles. The superstition of situating a property right on the corner lot of a street—as in the very case of our fashion editorial’s location this week—may be seen as unlucky for its tenant. You’re just not supposed to be there, and no one knows why. But somehow we found ourselves right there at its old white gates. We want to understand what we can’t understand. We want to imagine that there’s more to a house than its dust and rust. Because imagination is everything. Imagination frees the mind.
