Karen Bolilia - The Philippine Star

Retreat from city life for a sea change. And with the Samsung Galaxy S5, remembering memories of an unforgettable trip will now be as easy as making them.

MANILA, Philippines - Proximity: the advantage of being a couple of hours away from a quick getaway, the reasonable distance between you and the water’s edge. When running off for a weekend jaunt where plans are optional and adventures all too likely, it only makes sense to take as little as possible with you. Bearing a lot of heft without the weight to go with it is the Samsung Galaxy S5, a smartphone that may have the standard DSLR questioning its existence. Apart from its dedicated heart rate monitor and fingerprint scanner, the S5’s camera has evolved to give its users clearer and quicker snaps.

The Galaxy S5’s 16-megapixel camera sports a new flash technology—no need to worry about those awful deer-in-the-headlights selfies by the sand. Autofocusing on a camera phone will never be the same again, as the Galaxy S5’s camera features a selective focus feature to provide simulated depth of field. (Think bokehs that go with those soulful road trip shots against lush greenery.) Video diaries of any quick getaway can easily be documented through the Galaxy S5’s video capabilities, which can capture 30 frames per second.

There’s also no need to worry about getting such a handy phone wet; the Galaxy S5 is water resistant. Submerging it for short periods of time will not be a problem. Just make sure that you’ve got the back cover and ports on correctly to ensure your phone doesn’t get fried in the process. In fact, the Galaxy S5 recently proved its mettle by taking on the trite ice bucket challenge to raise awareness on Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis—the phone’s computer voice announced its intention to get doused with ice and water, which it did, to no apparent ill effects.

While smartphones all over are now shivering at the thought of being tagged to do the ice bucket challenge too, the Galaxy S5 will likely-be as calm as a cucumber for your next road trip. Its lofty memory space (2 GB of RAM  with 16-32 GB of storage will be more than happy to store all the snaps of any trip to remember. So pack your favorite things, go—and take as many pictures as you can along the way.
