MANILA, Philippines - Take a breath, Manila. You’re probably still reeling from indie darling Sky Ferreira reveling among us archipelagic folk as she spun at an industry event in Forbes last Tuesday, wearing the iconic Levi’s Trucker jacket. Looking nonchalant but every bit the definition of classic-cool that the brand exudes, industry stalwarts and cool kids banded together and live-tweeted their way through social media as she spun her own brand of music, including her own hits like You’re Not The One and Everything is Embarassing.
Among those spotted at the party were Levi’s Philippines’ very own brand ambassadors Brent Javier and Robbie Becroft who, like Sky, didn’t fall short with their own tales of self-expression. As part of the denim brand’s new global campaign, “Live in Levi’s” is an optimistic new direction that reinvigorates the brand’s soul while still maintaining the individualist spirit that radiates from within its denim collections over the years.
“My first 501 experience was during my first visit to the Philippines,” shares style blogger Robbie Becroft who has since found himself a home, both in the Manila lifestyle scene and Levi’s. While the salesladies, he recalls, were yelling, “501! 501” in their screechy voices, Robbie remembers buying a pair with his mom, thus effectively marking his relationship with the brand over the years.
Talented actor and model John James Uy, on a similar note, dotes on the brand as being the source of his rock star sensibilities. In fact, his first leading role in a film was not without his Levi’s 501 and it undoubtedly gave him swag. He shares, “Levi’s is timeless. It will never get old no matter what decade you are in.”
“Levi’s is forever!” shares top model Brent Javier who defines his personal relationship with the brand as one marked by heritage and great stories. “My vintage Levi’s trucker jacket is not my favorite Levi’s item. This is my favorite piece of clothing, period.” From searching online, he would seek out a true vintage “Big E” trucker jacket — and that he found it with Levi’s was the universe’s way of making the stars align. “This trucker (you see) is a minimum of 44 years old.” Talk about iconic! — TOFF DE VENECIA
