Drip it like it’s hot
MANILA, Philippines - Almost every famous TV series about a group of friends has a signature hangout: Friends had Central Perk and the recently concluded How I Met Your Mother had MacLaren’s Pub. For years, we saw them create a home away from home, and couldn’t help but get jealous.
Located at the ground floor of a corporate tower (the least homey of all places), Luna Specialty Coffee wishes to be a home away from home for its patrons. From the brick walls to the spacious open bar, Luna pulls out all the stops in creating a relaxing space for casual coffee drinkers and adventurous foodies. It is a great place to hang out, but don’t expect a WiFi connection; they encourage having a conversation with the community.
Luna mainly serves coffee, but don’t expect the typical hot and cold brew; what they offer is a cross between the familiar and innovation. The coffee shop’s crowning glory is in its Japanese-style brewed coffee, carefully prepared in front of your eyes. On top of this, they also bring a unique Filipino twist to common concoctions by infusing childhood favorites like Flat Tops and White Rabbit to frappuccinos. Instead of serving bottled juices, they sell a variety of samalamigs. Knick-knacks, scramble, and quezo chocnut-flavored cookie cups are also available for the kids at heart.
If you’re looking for heavier fare, rice meals, such as the bestseller angus beef pares, and open-faced pandesals are also available to satisfy your munchies. Don’t forget to try their kakanin shots for dessert to end everything on a sweet note.
Aside from the frequent foodies, 9-to-5 employees, artists, politicians, and basketball players, Luna also gathers music lovers through acoustic nights. Drop by every Saturday to catch the musical acts perform live. Better yet, drop by after a morning run or for an evening caffeine fix because, who knows, you might even create relationships fit for a TV sitcom. — Maine Manalansan
