10 post-date songs and what they say about you

Coco Quizon - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dating is an environment where your emotions reign supreme. You finally went out with the person whose Facebook page you erase frequently on your Most Visited pins and words cannot adequately express how you feel. You chose a song to help but little did you know that the song you choose may reveal more about you than you realize. Here are a few songs that you could’ve played after your date and what they might say about the night you had and what kind of person you are.

Walk Me Home – Mandy Moore

You’ve just left one of the best dates you’ve ever had. Everything went perfect: the food, the show, the conversation was amazing and you guys were in sync the whole night until you had to go home by way of your own sundo who is Manong Buzzkill for the night. This meant that you had to trade in that first kiss for a beso that leaves you shaking inside your own skin. Sayang, if only Manong wasn’t looking. BV, but don’t worry there’s a next time.

You’ve Got the Love – The XX’s cover of Florence and the Machine’s cover

You choose the song that screams love but sung by someone who sounds like they’ve been chosen by your teacher to read the next paragraph out of a book. This must mean that the date was good and you know it but you’re going to keep your cool. You’re unfazed the next day and you go back to sharing all the quirky, left of center things you’ve always shared on your social media with one key difference — the romantic subtweet.

Stronger – Kanye West

The date didn’t go as well as planned or imagined. Let’s not lie, your date could possibly be shortlisted for the Awkward Dates Hall of Fame. The good thing about you is you’re not one to give up easily and you learn quickly from your mistakes. You know that. Your online personality test result told you that. You’ve got a lot of Buzzfeed Motivationals to keep you going until you bite the bullet and ask for date No. 2. Chances are things won’t get any worse.

My Boo – Ghost Town DJs

You’re kilig and you’re not afraid to show it within the confines of your earphones. The date you were just on felt more Hohol than date and you like it that way. You smile and you giggle to yourself a lot. You call out “Blooming ka” comments with the classic “Do I not look this good every day?” You put up a front but people can read you easily like an unprotected tweet and, secretly, you’re okay with that.

Differences – Ginuwine

You keep it together really well. You’re the type of person who’ll like photos on Instagram only if they’re really, really good. You can even keep this up no matter how cute your date looked on their last selfie. Your comments have a limit of one emoji. The only tell is the “Play” count of this song on your iTunes. It’s skyrocketed since your date and you’ve got your next message pre-prepared on the text box just waiting for the perfect time to hit “send.”

A Lizard State – King Krule

You’re a basted All-Star and this song plucks at your mindstrings because you don’t have a heart anymore. You believe “no” comes before “yes” in the dictionary for reasons other than the alphabet. This Valentine’s Day, you’re not going to call it Singles Awareness Day because that’s for amateurs in the Sad Boy game — you’re a pro who doesn’t need to flaunt your loneliness. However, you believe that love will come, just not now. Maybe in the next life, when you are a cat.

Hold On We’re Going Home - Drake

You’re a straight-up sentimental thug who puts the “G” in feelings. StarbucksDrakeHands is your personal hero because it takes a guy with heavy-duty balls to pull a stunt like that on a person they like. No matter how your date went, you’re ready for date No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 and maybe your entire lifetime. To you, heartbreak is only the source of new material and you don’t mind being a player in the serial monogamist game.

Boyfriend – Best Coast

What better way to express your feelings than your favorite song on vinyl. You rush home to your turntable. Your date was a dream you never had come true but you’re staying realistic about the pitfalls. Your heart mumbles the words to your core and you can’t help but daydream about one of your future dates at Wanderland where you imagine your wristbands magically interlocking. You giggle at the silliness and switch over to your other records to keep you in check. Tomorrow’s another day to do this all again.

Itsumo – Dice & K9

It’s after your date and the night has made your heart beat faster than the Cobra you drank this morning. For you, love knows no bounds. For you, love is patient and kind; not jealous, boastful, nor conceited. You’re also good at spelling, not only words, but also your feelings and you don’t care if they are unreturned. When it comes to LUV, you don’t mind being S2pid.

Cookies – R. Kelly

You’re into feelings, don’t get me wrong, but not right now. You appreciate the finer things in life. You’re not one to shy away from the #foodie hashtag. In fact, you probably embrace it. You’re upfront with your intentions as a personal rule and you’re not shy to tell people what you want and exactly how you want it. You may have scared your first date away but you know they’re only worth it when they stick around.
