Lucky Chinatown welcomes the Year of the Horse
MANILA, Philippines - Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and Lucky Chinatown invites shoppers to usher in good luck and prosperity for the Chinese New Year with its exciting lineup of activities. The festivities began at the Chinese New Year Countdown yesterday, done in partnership with the Chinese-Filipino Business Club Inc. (CFBCI), Chinoy TV, the Philippine Ling Nam Athletic Federation and the City government of Manila. Mallgoers enjoyed a fun cultural performance and watched the ceremonial hanging of Lucky Coins, which Lucky Chinatown hopes will attract wealth and luck for everyone in the coming year.
Mallgoers were regaled by cultural presentations from Chinese schools like Chiang Kai Shek College, Hope Christian High School, Metro Garden, Philippine Sun Yet Sen High School, St. Stephen High School, Philippine Jin Nan Institute, Philippine Cultural College, Chiang Kai Shek College Dance Troupe, Philippine Buddhacare Academy, Lorenzo Ruiz Academy and Philippine Tiong Se Academy.
A performance from popular Pinoy rock band Spongecola was followed by Luke Mejares, Paolo Santos, Jimmy Bondoc of Sabado Boys and singer songwriter Barbie Almalbis. Save Me Hollywood performed their rock, pop-punk and alternative rock numbers.
Rocksteddy and Richard Yap performed before the lighting of the first incense to help usher in good fortune for the Year of the Horse and a grand Chinese New Year fireworks display.
The celebration continues today with a Lion and Dragon Dance exhibition at 10 a.m. Guests can watch performances from the Kim Hwa Chinese Music ensemble at 11 a.m. and enjoy a Chinese opera show at 2 p.m. Those who want to learn more about their fortune can listen to a feng shui talk with Joy Lim at 3:30 p.m. Shoppers can also enjoy beautiful music from Jose Mari Chan at 5 p.m, and listen to a talk on Chinese New Year food tradition from Ivan Man Dy and sample delicious dishes at 7 p.m.
Fans of Old Master Q or Lao Fu Zi and his friend Big Potato will get the chance to meet these iconic Chinese cartoon characters at Lucky Chinatown’s Chinese New Year celebrations. Shoppers can take their photo with Old Master Q and Big Potato during the Old Master Q Meet & Greet today and tomorrow at 1 to 2 p.m. at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium. They can also purchase Old Master Q merchandise like T-shirts, cellphone cases, figurines, key chains and pouches at the selling booth at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium until Feb. 2.
On Feb. 1, guest can also enjoy numbers from Chinoy TV performers at 2 p.m. and from Princess Velasco at 4 p.m. On Feb. 2, guests will be enchanted with a musical and dance performance from Voce Fich at 2 p.m. and a live performance from crooner Richard Poon at 4 p.m. Then on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m, guests will be treated to astonishing acrobatic acts from the Malaysian High Pole Dance Group Kun Seng Keng.
Guests can help complete Lucky Chinatown’s Year of the Horse Mural, located at the Lucky Chinatown main entrance. All shoppers need to do is get a pair of free chopsticks from the Year of the Horse Mural booth. Customers can stick one chopstick into the mural and keep the other chopstick, which contains a Lucky Deal from one of Lucky Chinatown’s shopping or dining establishments!
