MANILA, Philippines - Out with the new, in with the old. Contrary to popular belief, vinyl records are not dead. Record labels and artists such as Adele, John Mayer, and The XX, among others, still churn out tunes in the lovable format. But how do collectors in the Philippines get their hands on these relatively rare pressings?
Satchmi wants to build a lifestyle on an old-world way of thinking, which is concretized through their vinyl records. After a year of distributing these pieces to the Philippine audience, the brand is celebrating its anniversary with Vinyl Day 2013 this Saturday (April 27) at Bonifacio Global City High Street in Taguig. From 5 p.m. until midnight, the pop-up presents an ensemble of indie acts: Reese and Vica, Fuzz, Ivan Theory, Ciudad, Hannah + Gabi, Your Imaginary Friends, Taken By Cars, Ang Bandang Shirley, Identikit, Idioms and Disposition, and Farewell Fair Weather.
They will also be selling—and giving away—records and the Motorino, Saatchmi’s signature turntable, in an event for local vinyl aficionados, would-be enthusiasts, and anyone with an ear for music.
