CHECKOUT COUNTER: Local street brand walks like an Egyptian

MANILA, Philippines - Don’t let Lindsay Lohan fool you. Dressing like an Egyptian doesn’t have to look like your face is melting. That’s Botox, not Cleopatra.

Local brand Proud Race has always looked back with their collections, to ‘90s streetwear silhouettes and skate culture. This season, they marry that aesthetic to unlikely inspiration—Cleopatra-era hieroglyphics.

“This season we custom-made our hieroglyph graffiti fabric used to create jumpers, jog pants, and bags. We are also introducing functional swimwear pieces like the one-piece bathing suit and the nylon shorts,” they explain. “For this collection, we have made separates inspired by our love for athletic uniforms, focusing on the baseball jersey that is a prominent silhouette in the whole line. We’ve also used new materials like nylon and stretch black denim.”

The spring/summer 2013 collection “1990Nile” is available for order at www.proudrace.com.
