MANILA, Philippines - Everyone’s a photographer nowadays — the photographer formula consisting of owning an SLR camera and a basic knowledge in Photoshop (not to mention an abuse of the black-and-white filter option). But photography is more than the equipment or the photo manipulation technique. It takes pure skill. In Lee Jeans Philippines’ Shadow Play photo competition, Lee challenges these photographers to take photos of various city scenes and the shadows they create — with only the use of a camera. Take the best photo and take home US$2,000. Yup, you read that right.
Lee invites all photographers to be creative in their shadow entries, whether they record simple shadows cast by a building during sunset or shadows of people from a lamppost light at night. Participants can submit a maximum of three captioned photo entries to the Lee microsite each week. Weekly winners will receive P1,500 worth of gift certificates and one major weekly winner will get a Lee x La Sardina Lomography camera. Weekly winners will automatically become eligible for final judging. Three runners-up will get a Lee x Manila fixed gear Fixie bike by Kiko Escora and the grand prize winner will get the sweet $2,000 pot. The cherry on top? Winning photos will be flashed on Lee’s LED billboard along EDSA.
Lee’s shadow play contest will run until August 31. For more information, log on to the Lee microsite www.leeshadowplay.com or visit their Facebook page www.facebook.com/leejeansphilippines.
