Cutting class

The science of hair: Join Hair Design Atelier, a cutting and hairstyling course by L’Oréal and the School of Fashion and the Arts.

MANILA, Philippines - If there’s one thing I’m fussy about when it comes to beauty-related business, it has got to be my hair. Every time I go out, I have a strict routine on how I should go about my tresses from home treatments, application of heat protectant sprays, air-drying my hair 90 percent, blow-drying and flat-ironing. I give extra attention to my hair because it really is a person’s crowning glory. It can make or break you and making sure that your hair is well taken care of begins with your hair stylist. Forget other people’s dismay when they roll their eyes at how you’re being choosy with your stylist. Great hair care should be in the hands of the proper hair authority — and now, you can certainly become one of them.

A Cut Above The Rest

L’Oréal, the Parisian House of Hairdressing, has tied up with the School of Fashion and the Arts to create the Hair Design Atelier, a cutting and hairstyling course. Both companies believe that hair artistry has slowly evolved and this course would help give the budding hair cutters a chance to satiate their curiosity. This short course, running for six Saturdays, is aimed not mainly at those who want to venture into the hair industry professionally, but rather at the ones who want to know the basics of haircutting and styling either for freelance purposes, stylist’s wanting to boost their résumé or for home use. L’Oréal and SoFA believes that getting the know-how of fundamental hair works is better done when under the care and supervision of the proper hair experts.

The course will touch briefly on the biology and anatomy of hair, followed by basic haircutting techniques for females, hair styling and ending with the use of live models. The Hair Design Atelier will be taught by three licensed L’Oreal Professionnel experts namely Wesley Po, Ara Fernando, and Eddiemar Cabiltes. All three trainers are dedicated in teaching their craft and passing knowledge on to their soon-to-be students.

At the end of the course, students will receive a SoFA x L’oréal certificate that will receive recognition not only in the Philippines, but in the L’Oréal headquarters in France as well — a bonus benefit for a short course.
