Dancing through life

- Kara Ortiga -

MANILA, Philippines - If there’s one thing that the heat of summer brings, besides hallucinations of idle tanning at the beach, an ice-cold fruit shake on one hand (spiked, if necessary) — it’s an air of carpe diem, a sudden urge to throw everything to the wind.

Which is why there’s no more perfect time for Native shoes to come on the market than the beginning of summer, when people are craving respite and adventure. For the summer escapade you’ve been planning, Native shoes promises to keep things light and colorful.

Native utilizes foam-injected modeled-EVA, an evolutionary technology that makes the shoes washable, odor-resistant, and anti-microbial, so you don’t have to worry about stinky feet. The material of the foam is so comfortable and lightweight you wouldn’t feel the hassle of carrying a heavy load, but it’s created to be durable and waterproof, perfect for land and water activity.

Apart from the utmost comfort that Native shoes can provide, the variety of designs available has also earned eminent nods from personalities in the fashion industry. For example, the Native Fitzsimmons funky work boot is a Red Dot design awardee, while the Jimmy Boot just recently launched an exclusive collaboration with famed international designer Marc Jacobs.

But of course, not to be forgotten are the classic and timeless shoe designs, complemented by the variety of colors that the brand’s core styles are available in. Designs Jefferson, Corrado, Jericho, Miller and the Howard were each created based on popular shoe styles that work well for both day and night.

Clowning Around

When Native launched last Feb. 25 at Bonifacio High Street, it was a whirlwind of color. The interactive color carnival drew so much attention from so many onlookers; people were walking around brandishing a variety of Native shoes, each style reflecting the eclectic personalities who dropped by. The event had free snow cones, ball pits, clowns, balloons, carnival games, street dancers and musicians, a venue of fun for children, adults and families.

Once the sun had set, international DJs Trevor Andrew (a.k.a. “Trouble” Andrew, husband of Santigold) and Jason Bothe graced the event, along with a fashion show of Native’s latest Spring Summer 2012 collection featuring brand ambassadors like Ateneo Basketball captain Kirk Long and Philippine national team swimmer Roxy Kee.

It’s no doubt Native will be among the must-haves that every person must be equipped with for summer. They’re fun, quirky, colorful and trendy, and will definitely make you rethink that “no pain, no gain” motto with regards to fashion and shoes because now Native proves you can be stylish without sacrificing comfort.
