The many loves of Spider-Man

THESE AREN'T THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR - Jiggy and Jonty Cruz -

Spider-Man knows a thing or two about women. Despite being the nerdy superhero, his love life is as tangled as the web he spins.

Batman, Green Lantern, and Wolverine are known to be players in the world of comic books. Women have a thing for their types: cocky, confident, with a Devil may care attitude. This doesn’t mean that the nerdy or geeky types don’t get the girls. As a matter of fact, Peter Parker (Spider-Man to the layman) gets his fair share of ladies, too. whether it is tragic or funny, Spider-Man is the best case for some post-Valentine superhero reading.

Gwen Stacy – The First Love

If there’s one that got away, it’s Peter Parker’s first love: Gwen Stacy. She’s got beauty, brains, and long blonde hair. Unfortunately, Gwen died in the clutches of Peter Parker’s arch nemesis: The Green Goblin. At first, fans thought that they were meant to be together, but in terrific Spider-Man drama, fate had other plans. Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale released Spider-Man: Blue, and retells the story on how Peter and Gwen came to be. Powerful and riveting, this is probably one of the best Spider-Man love stories to date.

Mary Jane Watson – The Girl Next Door

“Face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot!” will forever be a key line in the history of the medium. No one saw Mary Jane Watson entering the life of Peter Parker. She was a sexy redhead who loved to party. The girl’s got spunk! Peter and Mary Jane dated for a bit and did end up with each other. The two of them were married until in 2007, wherein Marvel decided to cut the ties that bind in the pages of their “One More Day” storyline. We won’t spoil how it happened but we will say that it may be the most controversial thing to happen in Spider-Man’s life. But since it’s Valentine’s, the better story to read is the explanation on why it happened. Former Marvel Editor-in-chief Joe Quesada writes “One Moment In Time” together with artist Paolo Rivera and explains what really happened to the two lovebirds.

Felicia Hardy – The Girl Gone Wild

There’s always a temptress for superheroes. If Batman has Catwoman, Spider-Man has Felicia Hardy (The Black Cat). The daughter of a rich businessman who also happens to be a famous cat burglar, Felicia is somewhat like Veronica Lodge. She’s the opposite of the girl next door and similar to the girl you can’t have. The great thing about this relationship is that the Black Cat is in love with Spider-Man and absolutely hates Peter Parker. Fans were treated by writer, Kevin Smith and artist, Terry Dodson, in Spider-Man: The Evil that Men Do. The story is set during Peter’s married life, and continues the love triangle between Peter, Felicia, and Spider-Man.
